We seek European folk dancing and shadow puppet enthusiasts to join us in making spectacle to celebrate the glories of the longest day of the year! Come make giant shadow puppets, dance and perform with us on June 18th. Details below. Thanks to the gracious support of the Toronto Arts Council.
JUNE 18, 2016
3-4:30pm: lantern making workshop
4:30-6pm: shadow puppet workshop
6-7:30pm: Balfolk musicians workshop
7:30-9pm: Balfolk social dance
9:30-10:30pm Shadow puppet performance
On June 14 and 15, come to Amos Waites Park from 6-7:30pm to learn the basics of Balfolk dancing. With a live band and our wonderful dance teacher Emilyn, you'll be able to learn some of the dances before the big celebration on the 18th. No partner or dance experience needed - these are folk dances and meant to be danced by everyone.
On June 16 and 17, we invite you to join us in the park from 6-7:30pm for workshops in shadow puppetry. We will experiment with making shadow puppets from paper cuts as well as found materials. We also encourage participants in these workshops essions to join us on the performance day for a small role in our final show!
